Capital & largest city:  Bucharest  (2 million)

Area: 238,391 sq km (92,043 sq miles)

Borders: Romania shares a border with Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the northeast, and Bulgaria to the south.

Ethnic Groups: 89.5% Romanians, 6.6% Hungarians, 2.5% Roma 1.4% other minority groups

Official Language(s): The official Language of Romania is Romanian. Hungarian, Romany and German are often spoken as first languages by the Hungarian (Magyar), Roma and Sasi (Transylvanian Saxons) minorities. English and French are widely spoken.

Major religion: Christianity. The majority is Orthodox (86.8%)

Form of government:  Parliamentary Democracy
